Introduction to Controller Area Network (CAN)

Controller Area Network(CAN) was originally developed in February 1986, by Robert Bosch Gmbh and was introduced as Automotive Serial Controller Area Networkat the SAE congress in Detroit, as the new bus system. Bosch engineers Uwe Kiencke, Siegfried Dais and Martin Litschel were the pioneers in introducing this multi-master network protocol. It was based on a nondestructive arbitration mechanism that grants bus access to the message with the highest priority, without causing any delays.
