FlexRay Protocol: Objectives and Features

In recent years, time-triggered communication protocols have been developed to support time-critical applications for in-vehicle communication. In this respect, FlexRay is a new communication protocol supported by a large group of car manufactures and automotive electronics suppliers. FlexRay has the prominent features including high data rates, time/event triggered behavior, redundancy, fault tolerance and deterministic. This chapter provides a description of key projected features medium access control (MAC) layers of FlexRay and investigates the scheduling problem of periodic signals in the static segment as well as in the dynamic segment of FlexRay.
