This paper proposes a new relaying selection scheme that enhances the energy
consumption, packet error rate for dual-hop wireless co-operative networks by
using both AF (amplify-and-forward) and DF (decode-and-forward) protocols. In
wireless sensor networks, relaying node cannot directly apply MIMO approach due
to characteristic limits of sensor nodes such as size, cost, and energy reserve
to exploit spatial diversity; therefore, cooperative communication technique
based on the broadcast nature of the wireless medium, has appeared as an
attractive method to take place of MIMO in WSNs. In this study, a relaying
selection algorithm is described to select the best relay node based on respective channel gain and residual energy. Numerical simulation results show that the
proposed scheme accomplishes energy efficiency and reliability for two-hop
wireless sensor networks (WSNs).
