Abstract:

This paper proposes a novel approach to observe the condition of human heartbeat using ECG sensor with e-Health sensor and Raspberry Pi, a mini single-board computer with robust capability, which acts as central processing unit. Those hardware sets were assembled to collect ECG voltage signals in human body. The signals are transmitted to the device and the data are stored in MySQL database for long-term monitoring access. The proposed idea was to enhance the quality of service and to minimize the cost of using and maintaining by determining the best way in implementing and monitoring ECG sensor. The experimental results show the effectiveness of this approach as it is successfully fulfilling the idea of Body Area Network (BAN).

Q: For the sensors you used, what is the difference between e-Health sensor and ECG sensor?

A: e-Health sensor is used to perform biometric and medical applications where body monitoring is needed by using 9 different sensors: pulse, oxygen in blood (SPO2), airflow (breathing), body temperature, electrocardiogram (ECG), glucometer, galvanic skin response (GSR - sweating), blood pressure (sphygmomanometer) and patient position (accelerometer).

For this work, we only used ECG sensor, that is, a sensor to assess assess the electrical and muscular functions of the heart.


Weak point of the paper:

1. The web-based graphic can be displayed smoothly, but not for desktop-based graphic.

2. web graphic does not demand a huge memory consumption as what desktop graphic does.


Future work:

1. Ensure the real-time graphic in desktop environment more smoothly.
