This paper proposes Software Defined Data Distribution Service (SD-DDS) for detection and recovery failure in naval combat system. Data distribution service (DDS) as its network middleware which produces high traffic, slow failure detection, and recovery operations in large-scale networks. A hybrid communication systems based on software defined networks (SD-DDS) is introduced to improve scalability and reliability. SD-DDS offers computation speed-up through parallelization approach to provide additional delay time reduction. Simulation results show that proposed scheme reduces network traffic, computation time, and failure detection recovery time.

Q: Why did you use UDP transport mode instead of TCP for the simulation?

A: This paper is focused on failure detection and recovery switch, time is one of issue. The UDP transport mode is faster than TCP due to TCP has handshake session so that required additional time.
