Abstract- Internet of Things (IoT) has been promised improvement in many areas of daily life. It has driven advancement in different types of sensors and networks for broad-scale applications. Despite all these improvements, limited network coverage and battery life have impeded its application to railway maintenance. This paper introduces a method that will use the train as information transfer medium. Sensors will monitor the condition of railways and infrastructures, then transfer their data to a nearby gateway for easy transmission onto the moving train data storage device. On arrival to base station the train transfers the data to computer for processing. The Objective of this method is to eliminate the expensive cost of installing and running network facilities.

After presentation at KICS 2018 I was asked one question. 

(Question) What type of data are the sensors collecting?

(Answer) The sensors collect data about the condition of the various equipment in the railway system. The same type of data that humans collect before carrying out maintenance.
