This paper discussed a design and performance evaluation of marine engine fault detection system by using proximity sensor. A non-linearity can be decreased by using the sensor without increasing the response time by applying CANopen protocol. The marine engine fault detection system can measures crankshaft deflection and the bottom dead center of crosshead in real-time, and allows it to prevent serious breakdown from the marine engine by interlocking AMS (Alarm Monitoring System).
